overview of clinical hypnotherapy
Despite the classic image of hypnosis being something magical or mysterious, hypnosis is actually a natural state of mind. During any given day we all slip in and out of a state of hypnosis many times – whilst were drifting off to sleep, just before we wake up, whilst we’re engrossed in the television or a good book.
Hypnosis is not like being asleep; it is actually a state of hyper-awareness which is characterised by focused attention, increased susceptibility, and the potential to experience vivid ‘daydreams’. In fact daydreaming is an incredibly similar feeling to that of hypnosis; you are still aware of your surroundings, you are in complete control and if you wish you could come out of your ‘daydream’ at any time.
Hypnotherapy is the combination of hypnosis and a therapeutic environment which makes use of other modalities such as psychotherapy or counselling skills. An effective and professional hypnotherapist will therefore not only be able to guide you into a state of hypnosis but will also be able to deal effectively and compassionately with any issues that may arise, and they’ll also provide a safe and nonjudgementall environment in which you are able to talk about any thoughts or feelings you may wish to share.
Clinical Hypnotherapy uses advanced methods of hypnosis and other techniques to treat a variety of medical, physical, emotional and mental issues. Clinical hypnotherapy can often work where other methods, such as counselling, have failed. Clinical hypnotherapy is an integrated therapy - in that it often utilises many other forms of therapy such as Neural Linguistic Programming (NLP),behaviourall psychology, cognitive psychology, as well as the most effective elements of the most influentialtheoriess such as Freud, Carl Jung and Adler. The therapy is always tailored to your specific needs, and will always take into account yourbelieff systems.
Hypnotherapy takes advantage of the incredible power of your subconscious – this is the part of your mind that contains everything which makes you who you are; your memories your beliefs, your thoughts and feelings your hopes and fears. In order to make any lasting changes in your life it is the subconscious which needs to be addressed – this is the part of you which is running the show.
Byfocusingg on the voice of the hypnotherapist your concentration (and your conscious mind) is taken up completely – to the exclusion of all else. This means that your subconscious is then easier to access. Due to the heightened state of relaxation and the increased susceptibility which comes with it, any suggestions made to your subconscious are much more likely to take hold. This means that reaching your goal – whether it be losing weight, passing your driving test or quitting smoking will be so much easier to achieve.
As hypnotherapy deals with issues relating to the subconscious and everything we do, feel, and think is controlled by the programming in your subconscious, there really are no limits to the issues hypnotherapy can help relieve. Below are just a few.
