Hi, my name is Katy and I live in Nottingham with my husband, two young children, Yogi the dog and Billy the cat.
Having my first child marked a real turning point for me and marked the start of a journey I am still on; I knew instinctively that I wanted to have a homebirth (more because I didn’t like hospitals than any attempt at being ‘alternative’) and at the very least I wanted to have a natural birth -the thought of needles and drugs and forceps and stitches terrified me! So I began to read everything I could get my hands on....
Despite all my research and preparation, giving birth was still a very scary prospect, especially as most people I spoke to seemed absolutely horrified at the idea of having a homebirth, and especially with my first. They, like me, and every other woman had grown up listening to horror stories of about childbirth as well as seeing extremely dramatic labours on TV and film; unsurprisingly fear is the dominating emotion when it comes to childbirth, we are no longer brought up to see birth as the positive and empowering experience that it is, as a result women have lost confidence in themselves , their body and their ability to give birth naturally.
I did manage to get the natural birth I wanted, and at home too which was so very special. Giving birth to my children is by far the greatest achievement of my life as it is for every mother. My dream is for all women to feel empowered, in control and even excited about the coming birth! It does not matter whether you are having a homebirth, a hospital birth with intervention, or a c-section, what matters is that you feel happy and in control (as much as is possible) of the situation.
I also decided to specialise in offering natural treatment for infertility after realising how effective reflexology was for hormonal and reproductive issues, how much the subconscious is involved in fertility as well as how many couples there are struggling to conceive. Helping others to have their own babies really is as good as it gets!
I am fully insured and professionally accredited, I am governed by a strict code of ethics and I am obligated to continue my professional development in all areas. As I specialise in an area of which is very close to my heart I am always eager to learn more, develop my skills and ensure that I offer the very best service possible. With regards to issues like birth preparation, smoking cessation and weight loss I feel that I can really help women and men not only through my professional training but also though my own experiences, I know that if I can do it, anyone can.
