More specifically; 'you' refers to the beliefs you have about yourself, and the beliefs you have about food, these beliefs are formed over the years from the messages received from the adults around you when you were a child, as well as your own experiences.
The beliefs you have form the very core of who you are - and most importantly what you do. Beliefs create thoughts, and the thoughts you are thinking (often unconsciously) create emotions. Thoughts also lead to action.
If your beliefs are based upon unhelpful or even unhealthy examples set by others, especially those with great influence such as parents, then they will create nothing but unconstructive and unwanted thoughts, negative emotions, and unwanted behaviour.
Every time you put that chocolate bar, hot buttered toast or pizza into your mouth you will have been thinking thoughts which make the decision to eat inevitable. Every time you find yourself avoiding exercise thinking 'I'll start tomorrow', you have been thinking thoughts which make this decision inevitable. We all have an inner voice, and it's not often that it stops for breath!
Until you address the self limiting thoughts that run through your mind, and the beliefs they are attached to (such as 'I was always fat as a child, I'll always be fat', 'it's impossible to shift baby weight', 'women over 50 are expected to have middle age spread') you are fighting a losing battle.
Every single thing you do - or don't - is carefully thought out and weighed up by your subconscious. If you grew up with your parents giving you sweet treats every time you were upset this is a powerful message one that your subconscious has well and truly taken on board. Whenever you are emotional you will be driven to soothe and 'stuff down' these emotions with what always worked as a child - food.
It does not matter how much, consciously, you want to lose weight; your subconscious will win out every single time. Years of hearing the same messages over and over again programme your mind to tell your body to behave in a certain way; limiting self-beliefs, negative self-talk and unhealthy beliefs about food are stopping you from being the person you want to be.
